About the Team
|
teamSYNERGY
was originally formed in 1998 by Grant Phillips and Graeme
Freestone King. Both riders had very clear ideas about how a
team should nuture young talent, and, as long time racing cyclists
themselves, felt that it was time to repay some of the debt
that they owed to cycling.
Hence,
teamSYNERGY
was formed, and attracted an amount of commercial sponsorship.
After a successful first season, the sponsorship of the team
developed, and in 2001, the team incorporated Team Cycleweb's
road team. In 2002, Team Cycleweb's mountain bike team was also
incorporated. This allowed the use of the cycleweb.co.uk "super-portal"
as an additional publicity channel for the team partners, as
we prefer to term those companies who are so generous in their
support of our activities.
teamSYNERGY
will spend 2003 consolidating the efforts that it started in
1999 to bring young foreign riders to the UK and more importantly
for the long-term development of the team to help young UK riders
look to continental Europe as a venue to develop their talents.
Connections with two teams in France, one in Belgium and one
in Italy will facilitate this.
teamSYNERGY
has already been instrumental in the successful attempt
of two New Zealand riders to "live the dream". We
have also placed two riders into a Belgian Division 2 professional
squads.
