Why wear cycling shorts?
Properly designed and made cycling shorts are more comfortable for riding in than anything else. The fabric is cut in such a way as the short will fit without bunching or wrinkling when you are in a sitting position on the bike. The rear of the short is cut high, to keep the lower back covered, the front is cut low, so that it doesn't cut into the stomach. Some shorts are made with a 'bib'. These are favoured by enthusiasts because they don't slip down, have no elastication in the waist to cause discomfort, and are generally of higher quality and better fit. The liner is designed to be worn directly against the skin, with no seam to rub, and padding contained underneath it to enhance rider comfort. If you don't feel comfortable with a lycra short, cotton lycra variations are less revealing. There are also several, more casual or 'baggy' designs that retain some, although not all, of the advantages of a traditional cycling short.
