Cycling Issues - Organisations
The British Triathlon Association is the governing body, and they
hold a listing of all sanctioned events, as well as a list of all
affiliated clubs. I would recommend membership of a local club, because
although there are some excellent books on training for triathlon
available ("Training for Triathlon", by Karin Zeitvogel and Sarah
Springman being one of the best). Speaking to a wide variety of participants
can also be extremely useful, especially in the initial stages. Membership of individual sports clubs (i.e. a swimming club, athletics
and cycling clubs) can also be useful as they often have specialised
knowledge that might be lacking at some triathlon clubs. My experience
is that many triathletes are also members of single-discipline clubs.
Try and track down a magazine called "220" - it is a Triathlon specific
magazine, well written and presented, and has a lot of useful information
in it. There is also a less "grass roots" magazine called "Triathlete"
- relevant phone numbers are: The British Triathlon Association - 01530 414 234
220 Magazine - 01793 512000
Triathlete - 0181 543 9747
